I am 17 years old and don't want to wait until I'm 18 to drive. It would be nice to simply have my learners permit. I have not taken driver's ed, seeing as though I am over legal age to drive, would I be able to simply take a test at the DMV to get a permit?Is it possible to get a driver's permit in NC without taking drivers ed?
Until you are 18, you are only legally able to get a provisional license -- which is only available if you have taken a driver's ed course.
Once you hit 18, you can get the license/permit without the class.
