yes he is right, the booklets are 60-70 pages or so and cover just about everything you will need to know - plus they are free
basically the test includes basic concepts like :
signs, which colors mean what and what shapes mean what
for example blue signs give information, red means yield or stop
the rules of the road , like passing, what do the stripes on the road mean - solid versus dashed
rules about the car, what kind of lights are required on the car, how should license plates be displayed
when should your headlights be on
right of way - several questions on this, like if 2 people stop at a stop sign at the same time - who goes first?
what do you do if an emergency vehicle is coming?
rules about turning onto and from a one way street?
its been a while but expect 75 questions or so over that booklet, memorize it and you're goldenWhat kind of stuff will the DMV ask me on the written test?
Although basically the same nationwide, every state do have their own specific road rules, you rbest bet would be to go tot he DMV and get a drivers education book. That will cover all the questions they will ask on the written test.
